CRIBS - Tutorial: Part One

After last week’s orientation, today is my first day for the actual community service. We were tasked to conduct a tutorial to the girls who were sexually abused. I was nervous at first. I didn’t know anyone from there and I didn’t know what to expect. So I went there and I sat as the officer-in-charge oriented us on how things should be done. Then the time came – the orientation was finished and it was time to go inside the learning center to start teaching the girls. I was assigned to teach the girls in the grade six or first year high school level (I can’t remember) together with 3 other La Sallians who were also in the same table as me. So after some talking, we started the tutorial and a girl named Alma was assigned to me. She is around 12 years old (I think) and she is really friendly. We talked for a while then I started teaching Geometry to her. First I was thinking of how I would teach her because back in high school, I was not really good in my Math subjects. But thank God the lessons were quite simple and I think I was able to teach her wellJ. Aside from Geometry, we also did some spelling exercises but before I knew it, it was already 11:00 and it’s time for us to go. Time really flew so fast on this day and I felt like the time given was not enough. But then it was really time to go so we all said goodbye to each other, telling them that we’ll be back on the following week. So that’s my day in CRIBS. I went home, bringing with me a one-of-a-kind experience.
